Review of Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day
I can see how this anime is seen as a masterpiece in many people's eyes, with the wonderful soundtrack and touching story but for some reason this anime didn't really do it for me. I suppose the thing that made me find this anime quite unenjoyable were the characters. The main character Jintan (Or Yadomi? I can't remember) was alright but I found him extremely boring. I felt like he was lacking in personality. Then of course everyone's favourite character, Menma. I'm sorry, I can't stand her. I found her to be kind of annoying throughout the series, only feeling sympathy at the beginning when youfind out how she died. I couldn't get attatched her at all I'm afraid.
The same goes for the rest of the characters. I don't remember any of their names and the only person I remember in detail is the tsundere and the really tall and cheerful guy.
Overall, I wasn't a fan of any of the characters.
The story was okay, I'm not saying I hated this anime and it's story and I definitley had a few laughs in places, as well as some sad moments. I felt like the ending was a bit anti climatic but I wasn't dissatisfied.
I have to say I really did love the artstyle and I felt that the animation was good as well. Not my favourite anime for artstyles, but good nonetheless.
Honestly, the thing I loved most about this anime was the soundtrack, with the opening being my favourite. Many of the OSTs were incredible, not to mention the ending song. No real complaints here.
So I guess what let me down on this anime was the story and the characters. I can definitley see why people love this anime but as I said, it just doesn't really do it for me.
I would probably rate this anime with a 5/10 overall.
