Fate/Zero

Review of Fate/Zero

I watched both Fate/Stay Night and Fate/Zero in one go; they're basically a main story and a prequel - the background premise (7 chosen Masters are able to summon 7 Servants who represent different heroes / legends throughout history to battle in order to obtain the Holy Grail, which grants a wish) is really interesting. I mean, it's not super uncommon, as it happens with a lot of anime (Dragonball, Fushigi Yuugi... so many anime where people fight just to obtain a wish). It's a good premise. However, overall, I can see why Fate/Zero has a much higher score than Fate/Stay Night. A show's worth isbased on how much you like the characters, and the worst part of Fate/Stay Night was undoubtedly the main character (Emiya Shirou, who is too stupid and too weak to realize he's basically dragging down everyone else) vs this show, where everyone is up to par. Even the ones who aren't necessarily very smart or strong (like Waver Velvet) know to stay out of the way to let the actual battlers fight however they have to. It's a lot more interesting than just watching some blindly brave idiot fumble through the show, determined to "protect the woman he loves" sort of premise like Fate/stay was.
