Let me start with the negatives, 2011 straight up butchers the first few arcs in the same manner FMA brotherhood did. Don't get me wrong, it's still watchable and pretty enjoyable, but I have to give them shit for skipping most of the first arcs, character introductions and some development. As an adaptation of the beginning of HxH it's a 3/10 and I'm generous, it can be summed up in one sentence : saving money, the scene composition is basic aside for major fights, entire moments removed from the story, lack of diversity in the OSTs, and a single song for the opening with changed graphics, whichis sad when you compare it to this studio's previous adaptation which bordered on art, you can compare each episode from both series side by side and see it for yourself, one has alot more hard work and passion put into it.

They also made the first arcs' tone way too light then suddenly transitioned into a darker and grimmer tone during Yonkshin city, which was too jarring a transition unlike the previous adaptation.

If you want a good experience of early HxH, watch 99 all the way through (+the greed island OVAs).

My review doesn't stop here however, after greed island, 2011 continues and goes through two new arcs, Chimera ants and the presidential election, these two arcs were insanely good and their adaptation was so amazing that it made 2011 go from 3/10 to 9/10, great work on the tone, amazing OST, outstanding scene composition, sublime fights.

The best experience is still 99 -> 2011 chimera ants + election
