From the novel that's based on Salem's Lot, this is the single-handed best vampire fiction I've experienced thus far. It is real, it is gruesome, and there's no competition I'm aware of. From the onset to the outset you are put into a community tormented by an unknown menace, and the story works. The acting is on point, the characters are believable all the time. Oh the sounds. The importance of sound in shows really is understated at times, and in Shiki the sounds are astonishing, and most importantly impactful. My favorite anime for the longest time was NANA. & I'd end up having to accept that there'd neverbe a single favorite anime of mine for I kept finding as good & better shows. Shiki I've watched 5 times at least. I keep noticing new details, and this show keeps impressing me the more I experience it.

This is a must-see for anyone into horror and/or vampires.
Yes there are greats like Dance in the Vampire Bund, however this hits different.
Shiki doesn't romanticize, Shiki shows the reality. & it's up to the viewer to make up their mind in how they respond to what happens.
There's no black-white morality here, there's just the reality of nuance.
