Review of High School of the Dead
People would complain about this Anime with its breasts being shown as distracting, huge, or overrated. It does sums up the show pretty well, it does show the cleavage in a clear view in one episode for one character. That's all we were going to get, and I didn't afford to care. The problem about this anime is there is a mixture between reality and goofiness, and this show doesn't seem to pull it quite off with what's going on. Mostly this anime plays off like a comic, by that I mean the physics aren't realistic as of swinging a sword against a zombie and havingit fly 20 feet up in the air, or having the characters stand on the vehicle that could easily throw them off. I will be talking about the Story, Art, Characters, the Theme, and the music it plays. It goes to show it's all bark, no bite.
Story: Plain and simple, surviving. A world full of zombies would be terrifying, but you've seen most movies, tv shows, comics, and books about this topic. How does show differ? Mostly it's the cleavage, how there are 4 girls and 2 guys, which only one boy character seems to be the most important character, and finally the rest of the group is there for entertainment. Now some of the characters intentions is to find they're loved ones, but there is no leading direction of what they want to do other than staying safe. It doesn't show much of a interesting plot because that's how most shows play off, maybe if they had a second season there would be a antagonist that would stand in their way, but it's not like you haven't seen that either.
Art: The art style feels weird because I thought I was watching a porno, but instead it plays off like a casual show with a ton of pantie, butt, and breasts shots all over in each episode. It's disturbing. I get it though, it's fan service, but I've seen a better anime with better shot opportunities than this. It's just not taken seriously.
Music: This anime is horrifying and dark! Let's play some music like we are cooking brownies! The music isn't all interesting, but it's worst when it doesn't play the music for it's theme, even when it fits, it's easily forgettable.
Characters: Look, do you ask for a air head character in every cliche character there is? How about a bratty one? A Ill-tempered one? A stubborn guy? If that's exactly what you asked for, then maybe you should rethink your priorities. I'm not going to talk much about the characters because non of them seem interesting to even discuss about. One character with a dark past and enjoys killing, a geek who loves shooting because it defines him, a brat who... idk what is her character other than being a brat, a Ill-tempered character who seems to care, but has a temper when people get on her nerves, a main character who easily gets shy due to mild nudity or just plain nudity, but is brave and stubborn, a little girl... who doesn't do anything other than stand there and says "oni-chan" with a dog that sounds like a woman trying to act like a puppy, and a air head who... Gee I don't know? Just stupid? There are your characters, it's what you asked for in every anime, because you seem to enjoy it in every other anime that's also full of it.
Theme: It's theme is to have dark, comedic, drama, and action. The theme of it's darkness doesn't seem to show as much because we are too distract being distracted by the doctors soft voice and her breasts jiggling all over the place. You could laugh at this anime, I didn't, because it wasn't funny. I only laughed at the parts that wasn't necessary to laugh at. Drama, I can't exactly say drama because it seems to hardly be a problem. Finally the action, and yes, you get it, and it's like watching batman take form into 4 kids. There you go, there's something that could waste your time before your date, and to also ruin it.
I can't say I'm disappointed in this show because I didn't seem to care as much. It deserves a 4/10, people could watch it and say it has some good quality, while I sit in a ditch to make sure nobody hears me rant on of how stupid this is.
