Review of ReLIFE
Personally I started watching this series without any expectation whatsoever. I literally just skimmed the synopsis and I thought "hey, why not". I'm always interested in a story where a character is forced to see the world in another perspective, technically. That's what relife is all about, no? Story-wise I think it's delivered okay-ish, not that good but not bad either. Though at the middle I kind of feel distracted by the err... side stories. Maybe it's because I'm not at that age anymore, but the high school drama bit feels a little dragged out for me. And I'd be more interested to see the developmentof the MC rather than seeing high school girls having beef with each other. Also about the Subject 001 thing, I'm not sure if we're supposed to guess throughout the story because I feel like it's hinted heavily already at the first episodes, so it doesn't have so much impact when it was revealed later.
What I like the most about relife is it also illustrates the real life (haha, get it?) that the MC had to go through before which puts him in the current situation. There's a lot of stuff going on and it'll feel unfair, sometimes we have to act, but other times we need to bear with it in order to not make things worse. Neither one of the decisions is right nor wrong. It's up to the person making the decision how he assesses the risks and situation. That's just how real life works. I'd be really disappointed if the story heads into another cliché that the hero saves the day and lives happily ever after.
The story feels a little rushed (and the way they end it is kind of awkward to say the least), but that doesn't take away a major amount of enjoyment. It's a good coming-of-age story. After seeing the ending, I'm pretty sure they're supposed to make season 2 because I don't see any conclusion to this series... yet, especially regarding Kaizaki himself.
Overall it's a good anime but lacks any meaningful conclusion at the end.
