Tsukimoto, aka 'Smile', and Hoshino, aka 'Peco', are two childhood friends who grew with the a certain talent for table tennis. As the grow, they keep playing ping pong: Peco become an very good player and Tsukimoto remains an average/good player. Their vision of ping pong changes when a chinese player, Wenge, plays with Peco and defeats him. Peco starts an introspection after this and Smile begins to invest himself in ping pong. This anime deals with several themes as dedication, work, depression, hesitation, hope and has a multicolor palette of subjects, the ping pong is only a way to communicate these feelings. Each character ofthis anime go through the feelings exposed earlier, giving them a real depth and resulting in a real attachment. This evolution of each character is the quintessence of Ping Pong the Animation.

The art of Ping Pong the Animation is quite particular for an anime, but your eyes will be soon adapted and you will fully appreciate it. Despite appearing ugly at first sight, the animation reveals itself to be very fluid and never careless, contrary to Devilman Crybaby for example, of the same art director.

The OST is pretty catchy, especially the 'Hero theme' which stands for Smile's determination and intern battle. Each character has his own theme which reflect his own personality.

I really enjoyed this anime, it belongs to the kind of anime which change drastically your way to things and to view your life, and that's why I greatly encourage you to watch it, it's definitely worth it
