Don’t see any reviews here, so I’ll drop my first one. I read this because I came across it on Instagram, unfortunately, but I mainly started reading it because the art looked nice. Honestly, it doesn’t matter where you find the source as long as you’re able to enjoy it and support the series, I think that’s good enough. I think Tears on a Withered Flower does a great job interpreting the characters’ emotions and writing, expressing them through interesting panel layouts, word choices, and scene compositions. Art is great, character design is also pretty solid. I don’t think it’s the type of piece youneed to look too deeply into, but it has clean lines and good drawings that reflect its own unique style. The story is about a wife being abused by an emotionally complex man who used to be a good husband, trying to make a living and gather funds to properly start a marriage with her. He later ends up as a drug- and sex-addicted office worker who treats his wife like an emotionless ragdoll, both sexually and abusively. He shows little care about what she’s doing, although he still displays occasional nostalgic gestures, as he’s mentally unwell due to a dark past. The wife works at a flower shop and eventually crosses paths with a very good-looking young man who always comes in to buy roses. He pretends to be broke and tries to live a casual life like others, but he’s actually the son of a wealthy family. The young man has been silently observing her painful cycle of life, always suffering as he watches but never wanting to interfere. Instead, he slowly witnesses the suffering unfold until everything that causes her pain finally releases her from the vicious cycle. Also there are sex scenes in the manhwa but I don't really mind because it wasn't as bad as it could have been. It also helps spice up the storytelling and adds emotional and dramatic layers to the story itself with the way it's applying the usage of sex scenes in this story.
I enjoy this piece because it has a compelling way of telling a simple story. Despite how easy it is, this dramatic romance manhwa really hits. They have a good way of conveying character emotions and telling the story with layers that gradually unfold. So for someone who wants to get into this type of heavy drama with a very interesting way of storytelling, I think they will like it as much as I do.
