Spoiler warning

This review may discuss plot details.

*some spoilers* I am not a huge fan of manhwa, but after finishing The Horizon, I felt like looking into some more Korean works out of curiosity. Naturally, I checked to see if author JH had any other works, and mosquito war immediately grabbed my attention. This is an absolutely amazing read. You may think it's a reach, but whilst reading this I felt heavy influences from Japanese manga and anime, particularly Fire Punch, Evangelion, and a little bit of OPM. JH is a master at using the webtoon format to create a sense of scale to the huge swarms of mosquitos, and is just fantastic atmaking the scenes flow with this format.

Although the strange humour following the grim, hopeless first chapter may deter some, I felt bewildered and curious as to how it would go from the introduction of Dr Kim. This overpowered, joke cracking, fourth wall breaking character comes almost out of nowhere, singing a kpop song in his introduction. I was confused by this and still decided to follow along with the odd comical nature the comic seemed to be adopting, but I was blown away by the advancements after reading further.

Mosquito War might not be everybody's cup of tea, but it was a thrilling, enjoyable and thought provoking journey that I implore anyone seeing this review to give it a try. Read the first 15-20 chapters at least!

To make a probably stupid and bold statement: Mosquito War is the Fire Punch of Korean webtoons.
