Summoned to Another World for a Second Time

Review of Summoned to Another World for a Second Time

I am scoring 'Summoned to Another World for a Second Time' a 4 even though my level of enjoyment of this anime makes it actually a 6. The story is decent. It has an anti-war message. The protagonist may be overpowered, but he earned his might in his first time in the isekai. Best of all, since the source material is just 5 volumes of light novels, finishing the anime felt that the story has nothing left to tell. How can anyone not like it? The low average score of 5.67 stems from its ugly packaging, and it has nothing to do with its writing. The animation leaves much to be desired. In other words, it is PowerPoint style, and it's glaring even for me who can tolerate it. This is readily apparent with how atrocious the animation was when blood should be gushing in Episode 1.

Also, the character designs are extremely generick. It's possible that you may remember the character names since the writing is decent, but you can hardly remember how they look. Their faces blend with the thousands of faces you've seen, and this issue is even more pronounced if you are watching a bunch of anime simultaneously.

Some people take issue with the inclusion of a homosexual as an enemy. Some woke, or at least members of the rainbow community, celebrate this as some form of representation, forgetting that we're dealing with an evil character. Others deem this as damaging to the anime, possibly leading them to score this anime so low.

The truth is, we should be neutral about it. An enemy's homosexuality doesn't add or subtract anything from the story nor was that person given some backstory on how he became a homosexual. It was just assumed that he was.

In other words, the author wishes to include a homosexual character, and there's nothing inherently wrong with that, which is also my position in the review I wrote for Beheneko.

If you can tolerate these issues, then you will be able to tolerate or even enjoy watching this anime. Having media with some form of anti-war message is something this world desperately needs, especially with the elites of some powerful countries eager to sacrifice their citizens in pointless conflict after pointless conflict.
