Review of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind
My opinion here on JoJo part 5 might be very controversial, however, I just feel the need to express my opinions on it. Do keep in mind this is all subjective, and if you already seen it and feel different than me, then that is great, I'm happy for you and wish I could feel the same. Also, I'll try to keep this in order, but my thoughts might be over the place as I'm writing this off of a fresh viewing. Art: 7 JoJo's Bizarre Adventure part 5 was by far my least favorite JoJo artistically (and overall). While it still has the overall JoJo feelthat I recently fell in love with, it feels like an enemy stand is wearing it's skin and acting on it's own accord. Personally, I think it falls below the under-loved parts 1 and 2 of the anime. Many people really like the fact Araki is moving away from overly muscular characters that is something I will truly miss. The art style is something this just really, really isn't my cup of tea, however, looking at it as objectively as I can, I cannot bring it to anything lower than a 7 doing so would be an insult to the obvious amount of effort put into this show. The art is consistent, the characters all look unique and the animation is done well - just like every other aspect, if one takes the time to look at it from an objective point of view. However, since this is a personal review, I also cannot give it anything higher than a 7 due to personal reasons.
Sound: 9
I'm no audio technician so I won't even act like I can try to review the show's sound from an objective point of view so I'll keep this segment short. Luckily for me, I really enjoyed the music. In my opinion the sound effects are not noticeable - in the good way. The sounds compliment everything without being distracting, however, the music on the other hand was a good type of distracting for me.
Character: 7
The character designs are all well done and have a unique silhouette and the characters all have personalities that contrast another, however, just like in the art category, I cannot rate it any higher due to personal reasons. I believe I can find personal attachments to fictional characters fairly easily, however, with this gang, I just couldn't. Even when characters start dying I feel very little for them, and this isn't me comparing this to previous parts of JoJo - this is the most detached to a set of characters in any anime I've ever watched. They never made an impact on me. On the other side of things however, the stands to me felt like they had some of the most creative (and sometimes disturbing) abilities in the series thus far.
Story: 6 *Spoilers* (If you want to risk it still, spoilers will be indicated by asterisks)
The overall narrative of the story is fairly well done, however, I personally am very disappointed. The final confrontation to me felt very underwhelming. The whole ***Bucciarati was technically dead, but his soul controlled his body felt very forced to me. While I liked that not everyone in Bucciarat's team sided with him, I'm disappointed that Fugo never appears later in the show barring flashbacks.*** And I find there were more noticeable plot conveniences than in the previous parts. Honestly I believe had I wrote this review later after digesting the series, I might've given it a bit lower, however at the moment I cannot think of any other plot points I had major issues with.
Enjoyment: 4
Being the only category I can view 100% subjectively without feeling guilty, you can figure why this category is so low. There is simply too many things I really disliked with part 5 to give it anything higher, my high expectations are largely a reason for this though given how much I enjoyed the other parts. None the less, part 5 was not boring, and actually occasionally had scenes that I really enjoyed, however more often than that, I found things that I disliked.
Overall: 7
GioGio's Bizarre Adventure left me wanting more and thoroughly disappointed, however, with that being said, there's a lot to love about the show being an Araki creation animated by David Productions. I personally didn't enjoy the show, however, dear reader keep in mind all the reasons I given it lower scores is due to purely subjective reasons. The reasons I couldn't possibly give this show a 5 or lower on any category (excluding enjoyment) is the standard of quality is there it just wasn't for me. I was looking for a truck, but received a high quality muscle car, but no matter how good it is, it wasn't exactly what I was looking for.
