It starts out as a middle school story that looks like it is written by a middle school student. In fact, if you accept the shoddy beginning and the fact that almost every episode is the introduction of a new character, you can get yourself into a story that gets surprisingly deep into the "revenge of the outcasts" theme. Start to watch it and you'll appreciate it easily, a good anime in between more serious stuff.
