Review of Nisekoi: False Love
Harem animes aren't a genre I'm too keen on. Seeing as though the main character is denser than the mass of a black hole and the girls refuse to confess their feelings, it gets a tad bit annoying. Nisekoi is no exception, yet in the end, I found myself oddly satisfied with it. While it wasn't the best romance I've seen, it still provided some good laughs and some pretty dramatic moments I wasn't expecting and made it stand out to me. Story: 5- There's nothing too innovative here. The closest thing to being "unique" is the concept of the "Promise Girl" and the locket shegave Raku 10 years ago. Sure, it may be fun to try and guess who it might be from the characters that spring up throughout the show, but in the end, it dissolves into a basic harem anime plot for most of the show.
Art: 8- This is the first Studio Shaft production I have seen, and while it probably doesn't match up to their Monogatari series, it's still pretty dang good to look at. I really love the character designs and just the different types of backgrounds and effects around certain characters depending on their moods.
Sound: 7- The sound was nothing spectacular, The op and ed were decent, the sound effects sounded fine, and there were a few recurring background tracks in the show that I did enjoy. The voice acting was very good as well, with Raku and Chitoge's voice actors being the standouts.
Characters: 7- The characters in this show give me conflicting feelings. Most of them are basic Harem cliches, but as infuriating as he is, I actually like Raku, even with how dense he is, and I love Chitoge, seeing as she's a tsundere that actually has some pretty good development. The other main girl is the same annoying shy girl that everyone seems to love, and the rest of the supporting cast is just bland, except for Shu. (Oh and this may be about 3 years late but, uh, Chitoge is best girl. #TeamChitoge)
Enjoyment: 8- I really did enjoy this anime. It gave me the feelings of infuriation, annoyance, and laughs i was expecting, but also threw in some moments and feelings i wasn't expecting or thought the show was going to try and pull off at all.
And with that I'll leave you off with this; the show was neither great nor bad. It was enjoyable, yet predictable. If you enjoy harem comedies, you'll enjoy this show. I would recommend it to anyone who also like romantic comedies, seeing that it also falls into that category. Overall, I liked the show, and Chitoge is still best girl. Thanks for reading!
