Inazuma Eleven Go: Chrono Stones · review
Chrono Stone was weird, especially as someone who enjoys Inazuma Eleven. The biggest differential of this one in comparison to the other animes of the series is that this one is more lore heavy. And to be completely honest, the lore is great! Of course nothing is perfect, but there were plenty of moments I felt emotional and even cried, but some others sadly were awful. This was the first time I experienced an Inazuma Eleven episode that I did not enjoy. The downside of having a bigger focus on the lore is that the matches, which were the main attraction, became worse. And I'm sure, asan Inazuma fan, you'll feel like this is a terrible way to go about it. The whole thing that Endou said in the end of regular Go about Raimon being about everyone didn't really feel super true here. Some matches were awful, whilst others were great. Some characters were done amazingly, while others were awful.
Another issue this anime brings is the same issue I've said on my last review, which is about plot points being forgotten. Again we have something interested that is presented from the get-go and then they stop working on it. And it's even worse in this case because they don't even try to bring it back. It just becomes forgotten.
The last thing I want to point out is that the OST is FANTASTIC on this anime. I definitely recommend everyone listening to "Oppression by a Great Opponent!". That one really hyped me up!
The thing I want to make this clear on this review, which is why I gave it "Mixed Feelings" despite rating it a 7 is because the whole experience made me feel weird. It wasn't the regular Inazuma Eleven we are used to, but it also brings a lot of lore, which is great for people who don't like the formula of Inazuma. The balance between good and bad characters, good and bad matches, good and bad plot points, etc. is also one of the reasons I'm giving it mixed feelings. This anime made me feel weird, despite enjoying a lot of matches!
This is one of the few times that I'd wish MAL had half grades so I could give this a 7,5/10. Chrono Stone is definitely in a void between good and very good.
