Going in I knew Attack on Titan was considered some of the best anime has to offer and I haven't been disappointed. The openings are some of my favorites ever, the tension is palpable throughout the entire season and the fights are thrilling. Story segments are long but that in my opinion makes them much more impactful, except for the last segment of the season which does last a bit too long. Characters are engaging and personalities mix wonderfully. The development for them is not as apparent, as only a few get the spotlight, but the few who do get the spotlight shine bright. Thisis mostly due to the fantastic direction and writing that really tells you from the get-go that this is something special. The music is phenomenal which was to be expected of Hiroyuki Sawano. This goes without saying that throughout Attack on Titan, the music carries scenes. All in all great premise unlike any other and super engaging leaving you wanting more. This is the only shonen I've seen that not only breaks away from norms in the genre, but completely writes their own rules due to this being a very grounded series with very slight dark fantasy. Attack on Titan's season 1 is far from perfect, but it is truly something special.
