Review of Chainsaw Man
The Chainsaw Man anime is a brilliant example of trusting the production process. The first episode could have been more noteworthy to account for excess hype, but not every first anime episode comes with a 'bang!'. With each installment, the viewer could see that this anime was a labor of love for the animation staff. The anime follows the manga loyally, injecting blood, sweat, and tears into the material to bring out some brilliant character acting, especially in some of the ordinary life scenes. The real treat was the endings. There are over ten unique endings, each with its artistic flair. While admirable, some of methought, "I wonder if they could have spent this effort elsewhere?" "This ending looks so good compared to [x] scene."
If you're looking for something entertaining, then Chainsaw Man is it. Honestly, the character types of the main characters (i.e., Denji, Power, Aki) are so refreshing compared to the archetypes we have been cursed with for decades. Overall, I feel "full." There's a tinge of disappointment caused by the hype, but I am entertained.
If you're looking for brutal action with a rag-tag group of young adults dealing with #life, then you're in the right place.
However, if you want something more cruel and nonsensical, check out Baki!
