Review of [Oshi No Ko]
With all the hype surrounding Oshi No Ko, it's hard to go in without skepticism of "How good can this be?" Based on the top reviews here, you thought this show was some half-baked story with cute art style. Well, what awaits me was a story that hits deeply and unflinchingly. The mood & tone of Oshi No Ko is bright and flashy, just like the entertainment world it depicts. It lures you in with cuteness & comfort, but always linger with a sense of darkness that can hit you at any moment. Like many others, the first episode got me invested instantly, but it's truepurpose was a prologue. The story that follow can be considered more slower pace in a way, but people who say this show has no direction missed the point completely.
Oshi No Ko is all about the illusion of fame; exposing the masks of the entertainers, the crew, the people pulling the strings, and even the fans. So many scenes has hit me so brutally on how we treat the so called "idols" or someone famous. The dedication/sacrifice of child stars in showbiz Vs. the expectation society put upon them was unflinching. While it does all that emotional beating, the show also provide so much intrigue and levity. At the end of the day, you are watching groups of kids who are chasing their dream with all they got. It is hopeful as you really root for the characters to reach their dream.
