This Superman utilizes his superpowers to travel to Tokyo for its culinary scene, all during the one-hour lunch break of his alter-ego Clark Kent. This manga casts Superman as a foodie, into the Japanese culinary culture of it chain restaurants. I guess when you have a high stakes career as a superhero and journalist, you need a hobby to unwind. I find this version of Superman quite funny, and his food adventures are entertaining. Somehow, the authors and the translator are able to convey that this Superman still remains true to the kernel of the character. However, the Justice League teammates that guest star have shallowcharacterization and find themselves in common manga tropes, while recognizable to a regular manga reader like me, it may alienate the traditional superhero comic reader.
It is a funny and entertaining series, and, in my opinion, its chapters progressively throw it caution to the wind as it neared the last chapter, bringing villains such as Doomsday, Lex Luthor, and Darkseid. Even a Superman can die against villains like those, but in the end, they are side quests in Superman's own to-do list of Japanese chain restaurants. As long as the food art is done scrumptiously, I'm in.
