Black Channel (ONA) · review

I think it's a bit ironic they made the manga about a demon YouTuber into a content farm. Really. Black Channel is a great success, obviously. The manga was supposed to end on the 'Final Stories' arc (i want you to guess why), but it's so liked and well-received (and for a good reason) that they decided to let it go for a bit longer. Now, when Black Channel started serializing, they made a YouTube channel for it. Not very different from something like Karekore or Flag-chan, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand just like those channels, this is a licensed content farm channel. And not a very good one atthat, atleast when compared to the manga.

Let's get the first thing out of the way, Akane has been utterly butchered into oblivion. it was kinda obvious they were gonna give Black someone to ship with. If it wasn't obvious by now, Akane is realistically the only choice for a quirky romantic female character interest that they have. The only character who you could argue is Black's age is his "romantic" interest (or character used when they have to make more spicy thumbnails) and it ABSOLUTELY shows. She'll blush whenever Black does something, she'll go "It's not like I like you or anything!" when Black does something, and she's basically the character who has a crush on him, and due to Black being the 'tricky jester' archetype, he rejects any advances for the sake of it.

The Akane manga version is vastly different, being a rough, tomboy-ish girl who likes to fight, pretty different from the anime. Not exactly a nuanced character by any means, but it's a completely different archetype. The anime itself introduces a lot of original characters like Akira, the queerbait character for Black, Taro, the queerbait character for Black, A, the queerbait character for Black, Leo, the queerbait character for Black, Ash.. he's.. there? A lot of the characters in here don't really add much. They either exist for the sake of original content, or exist so random people in Pixiv make nasty yaoi art out of them with Black.

I do not think you should watch this. Plott is quite famous for it's 'slop animated manga' videos, and that already makes this a hassle to watch. There is a LOT of slop on this channel. It is very visibly one of those type of channels, it doesn't take much to figure out that due to the hypersexualized/weird/clickbait thumbnails that this is a channel meant to rack up views and give it's profits towards Plott so they can make more slop channels like these.

If it didn't have the adaptions of arcs like the Multiversal Tournament one, this would be a easy two. But they've done those fair enough. Anything that gets adapted here is a easy six out of them, but there is a LOT of sludge in here.
