India Calling Me Now · review
I loved this manga for showing the struggles of women-across the world. It relates India and Japan by the similar situation the women in both the countries are in-although to a certain extent differently. The short instances when it uses Indian history to show how even during those times women's stories-their frustration and how trapped they felt. I felt myself wishing that I would see the more ambitious Indian women-famous historically-would also get their mentions. Because these women could break free of the society's chains and take a step forward-just like the two characters in this story do. I like the characters because of theirgrowth-especially the mangaka from Japan. I also respected the Indian taxi driver she had come across-and her optimism. She is very strong emotionally.
India is also drawn quite accurately and it is set in the modern world, so I could relate to certain things. The bustling people, the shops, crowds, traffic jams-everything is drawn quite accurately.
