Samurai Champloo: A spoiler free review. It was late October. I was seventeen years old, standing next to my friend I've known since I was nine. He was smoking. He was angry. We were fighting about a physical argument he got in with a mutual friend. But he needed my help and so I helped him. Out of respect for the time we shared, not for the person he became. When all was done we stood in his driveway. Cloudy and humid. He said "thank you" and I said nothing. I was still angry. I started walking away when he fired a"see ya around" only for me to respond what I always said to him, even in a good mood... "probably not" and I was right. We never spoke after that.

You never really know when you're going to say goodbye to someone for the last time. We all want it to be an event. A hand shake and a hug after we toppled an empire or a standing on how we both feel about one another. But it is almost always just "see ya round" and nothing...

We want somewhere to go. Not just in our lives but in our fiction too. We want to save planets, find lovers, kill bad guys and board the gate to hell. We want to die next to our comrades, not delete them from our contacts. But that isn't life. And though the destination is what we want, the only thing we are guaranteed is the journey. The journey with people we care about, and maybe after time passes, won't give a damn about any longer. So if time does pass, and things do change, it's important to not let times change your view of a person. The journey you had and the road you shared. We can't control when we say goodbye to someone for the last time. But this show says that that's the best part of the journey. Getting so mixed up in the fun of the ride, that it really doesn't matter.
