Review of Black Butler

Story-9 I gave this a 9 although I would give it a 9.5 if I could. I love the darkness of the genre, but I also enjoyed the intense action and mystery too. The plot is a very unique one that follows the main character, Ciel, in his quest for vengeance. Of course, there are also arcs involving his job, which is solving mysteries for the queen. I really enjoyed both the arc plots and the main plot and the way that they wove in with each other. The only reason I gave story a 9 was because sometimes it was really hard to waitthrough an arc when I really just wanted the main plotline to keep on moving.

Art- 10

The artistic aesthetics of this anime are very dark- which totally fits the genre. The characters are designed well, and I really thought the artwork was beautiful while at the same time not over or underdone.

Sound- 8

As far as the opening goes, I usually skip it (not because I don't like it, I just want to get to the episodes.) It's not particularly remarkable in my opinion, but it's certainly not bad. The background music and sound effects are very well done, but once again, I don't think there was anything super fantastic about them other than that they perfectly fit the dark atmosphere of the anime.

Character- 10

The characters are probably the number one thing about this anime. Their personalities and their relationships are all very intriguing, but I was especially drawn in by the relationship between Sebastian and Ciel. It's very complex and very well done. There are times when the watcher simultaneously loves and hates the characters all at once and it's addictive. Not to mention the less focal characters, like a certain grim reaper with obsessive fantasies that provides great comedy, the household servants with hilarious problems and shadowy pasts, and the annoying yet somehow endearing fiance- they all captivate you and grab your attention.

Enjoyment- 10

I must say I loved this anime, it's probably one of my favorites of all time. It has plenty of action elements, but I also really enjoyed the mystery and subtleties it has.

A fabulous anime. If you like a darker genre with a lot of thrill, this is for you!
