Review of Black Butler

Kuro is my guilty pleasure. It has many shortcomings and I recognize them all, but it will forever hold a very special place in my heart. My crush on Sebastian Michaelis was the reason which pushed me into anime, and I will forever be grateful to Kuro for that. Surprised to see so many positive reviews; thought there would be more criticisms. Anyway, set in Victorian London, the anime is a visual delight. It does lack in quality from time to time, and the plot is all over the place (it begins with Sherlock style episodes and then quickly forgets about solving crimes and abruptly startsfocusing on other issues). It is also NEVER explored why someone like Ciel would ever be the Queen's guard dog. His personality is pretty much the opposite of that. I also don't like how annoying Elizabeth is portrayed to be, when in reality she's a complete badass.

The highlight of the series for me (as is with 99% of its fans) was Sebastian. Then there's the very cute (but bratty) Ciel, Seb's relationship with Ciel, Grell and even William. Hahaha. Bassy's sass is to die for. Kuro only shines in bits and pieces, but who cares? Michaelis more than makes up for every flaw in the series.
