Neon Genesis Evangelion

Review of Neon Genesis Evangelion

Finally got to watch this to see why it is considered an absolute Classic and a "Must-watch". It was generally alright till the 2Deep4U episodes started really taking off near the end. Not like most of the "twists" were particularly difficult to look through, since Nerv and the Council being the "bad guys" and having ulterior motives or something to do with "The Second Impact" was hinted at from the very beginning and that the Eva's are results of unethical biological engineering and had some sort of personality and Shinji's had something to do with his mother also rather early. Shinji was also a bit ofan annoying brat of a protagonist. His deciding not to pilot an Eva several times, just to rethink it minutes later as if the issues he had just before suddenly disappeared, or at least without imposing some sort of limitations to secure his continued help was kind of pushing it.

Misato > Asuka >>> Rei, but really they should all be in Mental institutions and not piloting Mechs. They really needed to introduce regular Psych Evals at some point for staff hired by Nerv.

Just giving it a barely passing grade because of the kind of fun enough early parts, the Pseudo-philosophical "meaningful/deep" final episodes and epilepsy triggers, with the final one turning into a slide show just felt retarded and had me groaning. If they started the series that way I wouldn't have gotten past the first episodes. It feels like they ran out of budget near the end there.

If you're not into "2Deep4U" storytelling and episodes that feel like a waste of time, watch the movies instead.
