Review of School Days
So I thought I'd write a full review of this anime to explain exactly why I gave it the rating that I did. I see that this anime is not very popular, but I actually think its a very powerful show. I'm not sure why so many people will watch a show which has asshole characters or content like in School Days, and assume its just some kind of wish fulfillment for the writers or that the writers are trying to glorify the actions of the scummy characters. The anime never glorifies the MC's behavior, the other characters constantly criticize him for his selfishness anddesperately try to convince him at every turn to do the right thing and he just won't. Deep down, some part of him seems to know what he's doing is wrong but he's so lustful that he can't stop himself.
From what I'm seeing, the low rating this anime is getting is just because it wasn't a happy show and it upset a lot of people. Well I'm sorry, but the fact that it upset you is not a valid reason for saying the anime is bad. The writers are trying to upset you, they did a fantastic job at doing it, they did it so well actually that you got mad at them for delivering the message and emotions they were trying to send so well.
Truthfully, this anime has a powerful message behind it that is important to learn. This anime is trying to show you the consequences of what can happen if you let your desire for sex control you and don't consider the impact your actions can have on people. Its also trying to show you just how unnecessary everything the MC did really was. Without giving any spoilers, I can say that although the MC is very horny, he actually could've gotten his urges satisfied without hurting anybody if he had just shown a little patience and empathy. That's part of the message that flew over a lot of people's heads. There's also a bit of an anti-bullying message that seems to have completely flown over a lot of people's heads.
If you're looking for a happy anime, get out, this isn't for you. This anime is basically the Japanese version of "Thirteen Reasons Why." Approach it like that, and you might get a lot more out of it than the people who just give it a low rating because it upset them.
