Review of High School of the Dead
I went into this series actually unaware of the amount of fan service featured. I knew almost nothing about it and only that there were zombies in it. I just assumed it was gonna be The Walking Dead with anime cliches and to be fair, it pretty much was. The story itself is fine, just your start to a zombie apocalypse, people are idiots and can't seem to understand that these things are trying to kill them. The wasn't anything special about the characters, Takashi is a sad high school student, Rei is his ex-girlfriend and they're brought back together because of the outbreak, Saekois a badass in kendo, Saya is an annoying know it all, Kohta is a nerd who gets a sick kick out of guns and Shizuka is a dimwitted nurse with massive boobs. The series seemed very predictable to me. There wasn't any real surprise factor to the show other than the sudden ecchi scenes. Every scene involving fan service was just ridiculous and seemed to only be there just to be there. One of the scenes featured Takashi firing bullets in-between Saeko's boobs while using Rei's boobs to steady his gun, which was just so ridiculous I couldn't help but laugh. It did frustrate me how stupid the characters act. One thing I'll suggest is to not go into this series seriously, just expect a group of high school students acting on dumb luck killing zombies in ridiculous ways. For all I know that's the consensus of it anyway and I was the only one unaware. The series itself is fine, the biggest down for me is the amount of fan service featured, just seemed unnecessary. A lot of the scenes will try to act serious but at the same time feature bouncing boobs and ass shots. But if you don't take anything seriously then I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Some of the ridiculous factors are entertaining, such as the zombie killing. The two words I'd use to describe this series is "Zombies and Boobs".
