Review of High School of the Dead
I really enjoyed this anime. There are only 12 episodes so it gets to the point and, after watching Elfen Lied (an anime infamous for its "gore" which I was unimpressed by), I'm pretty happy. Story: The story is pretty typical. Students at high school who don't normally interact come together as a united front against a mysterious zombie attack. I didn't realize it was an ecchi before I started watching it, but I've seen ecchi before. It got pretty annoying at times when you'd see shots of panties and boobs would bounce everywhere, but that's what I get for watching ecchi so I'm notupset. Also, the story starts out very strong. The characters get into intense battles with the zombies. You can see every detail in the fights, but it starts to fizzle after awhile.
Art: I really enjoyed the art. It was clear, the shading and environments were nicely done and, I have to say, the gore was pretty amazing. I gave it the highest score mostly because of how impressed I was at the beginning.
Sound: The sound was nicely done. They make sure the zombies moan and groan like they are supposed to. The music was haunting and ominous at first(even gave me chills a couple of times), the screams really freak you out at times, but I think they started to tone that down with the action as well. I think they even "borrowed' the Resident Evil theme song...?
Character: I gave this a Fair score because, while the characters had their own stories, it was mostly bouncing boobs and panty shots. They didn't delve too deep into their pasts or relationships in the sake of ecchi related scenes, but again... its to be expected.
Enjoyment: I really enjoyed this anime. The only reason its not higher is because of the in-your-face ecchi (which got uncomfortable at times) and how the rawness of everything just started to fizzle out as it went on.
I'd recommend this anime to anyone who likes zombies and girls (or girls who can get past the pervertedness like me). It was really well done in my opinion and I definitely think its worth a watch at some point.
