Review of Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day
In anime, as in all forms of entertainment, there are stories which are told frequently, and stories which are told only every so often. In anime's case, Anohana is very much the latter. Not to its detriment, though, since that only makes it stand out all the more. The story follows a group of friends (or ex-friends) who are all struggling emotionally with the fallout over the accidental death of one of their friends ten years previously. If the above doesn't convince you to watch immediately, consider that the story in question is pretty much unique amongst anime series. As a matter of fact, it's theonly series in all of anime (that I've seen ) with this scenario in place. This alone makes it an essential watch for not just anime fans, but non-fans too.
Now for the downsides. The characters in this series aren't the most well constructed, and a couple of them are hard to empathise with.
The sound and animation are pretty much 2011 standard, which makes sense as this anime was made in 2011. Nothing too fancy, just pretty good overall. But the story though? That's the real draw in this case and the reason why you should watch Anohana.
