Review of Dororo
Hands down one of the best anime ever. It doesn't shy away from being dark and gore. It gets so visual with the violence that when you return to the real world, you feel a bit depressed. It is definitely not for the weak-hearted people. It is able to achieve this level of goriness because there are some cute moments too. Almost every character has a well-defined backstory that gives value to their thought processes. The animation quality in some of the scenes is way too beautiful. It had the potential to be one of the best-animated anime of its time. But there were some sceneswhere the budget and time issues were painfully apparent.
This anime is the product of the: "Simplest of the stories, best of the executions."
This anime didn't get a 10 out of me for a variety of reasons and not only animation quality. One of the major reasons was the poor execution of the showcase of feelings of Hyakkimaru. I have nothing else to say about it. You will only understand what I mean once you have finished watching this. Another reason was the ending. I personally, felt it was underwhelming and there were many loopholes. It felt a little forced. It felt rushed. It felt it could have used an episode or two. The ending just left a salty taste in my thoughts. Thinking about it a lot, it was definitely a great anime, just failed in some major areas.
Conclusion: Watch this. Please. Just do. If you like horrific violence, gory nature, and dark and depressing story where death is natural, you are going to LOVE this anime. If you cant handle the story then I seriously won't recommend this anime to you because it might buy you a ticket to a psychiatrist. If you want to know the dark story but cannot handle violence well, try to watch the censored version if there is one, but please do. If you aren't watching this, you are missing in life.
