Review of ReLIFE
ReLIFE inspired me in a way no other anime ever has. I truly hope that everyone who finds this anime decides to watch it. (spoiler free) Story - 10 The main story itself is intriguing enough - a troubled 27 year old man takes a pill to make him look like a high schooler, and then attends high school for the year. This is what first pulled me to watch this anime, as I thought this could definitely be a funny and interesting premise. This storyline was done superbly. What I wasn’t expecting was that this anime would be more than just a slice-of-life. There are somany other parts to the story that come together and just make the story as a whole so good to watch. This anime was touching, extremely funny (the only anime to actually make me laugh out loud besides assassination classroom) and had no plot holes or inconsistencies.
Art - 10
I love the art style. It’s so crisp and bright. The color scheme is perfect.
Sound - 10
I am obsessed with the opening! I like how the ending themes change, and so enjoyed all of them. I also really liked the piano/jazz music that played during the anime, it was always fitting and didn’t distract too much.
Characters - 10
I don’t know how the writer did it. But somehow, every single character in this anime is so unique and loveable from episode 1. Just a couple episodes in, I was thinking to myself how sad I was that this anime was so short, because I wanted as much content as I could get of these characters (In fact, because I loved the characters so much, I had to read the manga to be with them once more. As an anime-only, that says A LOT). I could write about every single one of them, but I want to highlight a few that I particularly had a soft spot for.
Rena - What a relatable character. She tries so hard at everything she does, but always seems to be beaten by someone who is smarter or more athletic. She just wants her hard work to pay off. She wants to win, and I want her to too. Her character development is so great to watch.
Chizuru - Again, a relatable character. She’s alone, but she likes being alone... right? It’s ok to not be sociable? Well, Chizuru will learn about that throughout the anime. Her character is so fun to watch grow.
Arata - Our main character is so loveable, despite his flaws. Watching his kindness is so enjoyable.
I truly love each and every one of the characters in this anime.
Enjoyment - 10
There was never a second that I was bored while watching this anime. Never a second where I was thinking “this is getting slow”. It was pure bliss the entire time.
Overall - 10
Please watch this anime. It is so much more than the summary tells you. This anime made me have a better outlook on life. Thank you, ReLIFE!
