Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online This show is can be for lot of people. If you wanted the Phantom Bullet arc to be a little more tactical and gun based, you should give this a shot. If you are not a fan of the main series, you probably wont enjoy this either. Characters – 7/10 There are some really good characters in this series, like M and Pito. Pito has complicated beliefs and passions that contradict with the energy of the main characters. She is mixed in as the teacher as well as the antagonist, in a mostly fun story with little conflict. M reflect offof Pito in a semi-stereotypical way, but his expertise in weapons makes him very fun to figure out as the story goes on. The main characters Karen and Miyu are typical protagonists; nothing to hate or be intrigued by.

Animation & Art - 6/10
The art is as impressive as the Gun Gale section in SAO II. It’s standard and does the job. The main character’s avatar design is quite good and fits into how she plays the game. The other characters and art style are very typical to SAO.

Story - 5/10
The first half of the story was really solid. The character relations and set ups were all intriguing. I wanted to she how the story developed and how the characters would fit into it. When the second tournament began however, I started to care less about what was happening. The driving motive of the antagonist also felt shaky, it didn’t really feel like it was real.

Action – 7/10
The action improves on the Gun Gale section of the part in SAO II. Tactics and movement are a lot more defined, which makes scenes for a show trying to replicate a battle royal. Everything is very easy to follow, but still keeps a fast pace. There are some brutal scenes, and although they’re not emotional because being in a game, they are still exciting.
