Review of Akashic Records of Bastard Magic Instructor
Below average. The comedy was decent, and the story was kind of okay, but the MC's power showcase was downright infuriating. From the first episode to the last, this guy got his ass handed to him in every major fight without someone swooping in to save him. You keep hoping, "Okay, maybe this time he’ll finally show what he’s made of," but nope. Never happens. His behavior and talking style don’t scream "loser MC" at all. The way he interacts with his students and others actually makes him come off as confident, strong, and even charismatic. Personality-wise, he’s got that leader vibe, and you’d expect someonelike him to back it up in fights. But nope. When it comes to actual combat, he’s painfully average—scratch that, he’s downright disappointing. It’s like the writers forgot to match his personality with his abilities.
The MC was supposed to be this badass, top-ranked mage (rank 0 of the special mage force, no less), but he got wrecked way too easily in every fight. Like, what’s the point of hyping him up if he’s just gonna get carried by others every single time? I’m not saying he needs to be some OP isekai mc, but come on! Even in the final fight, he was about to bite the dust again until his student bailed him out. Pathetic. Dude stayed a weak protagonist for all 12 episodes. What a waste of time.
How do you make a character cool in dialogue and personality but so utterly mediocre in action? It’s like they couldn’t decide if they wanted him to be a badass or a damsel in distress. Spoiler: he’s the latter. Don’t bother with this one unless you enjoy watching a so-called "strong" MC get humiliated over and over again. Seriously, save yourself the frustration.
