It seems like what people don't like about this is the tonal shift? I don't get that all. To say that the twist was too abrupt seems super short sighted. I think the point is that it is abrupt. We put ourselves in the shoes of Hikari, an innocent girl in love with her childhood friend trying to win him over and comedy ensues. Then suddenly in a single chapter all of that innocence is lost when the twist happens. The point is that she was caught completely off guard by it. She's spent all of these years with her childhood friend and yet somehow neverknew about any of what happened.

If the shift weren't abrupt then the reader wouldn't really be in the same shoes as Hikari and the twist would lose a lot of that value. It's not like the story following the twist has been bad either. It's incredibly nuanced dealing in a super interesting and toxic love triangle in which two people matured in the presence of one another and Hikari just simply wasn't aware and didn't have that same experience.

I honestly love this manga and I look forward to every chapter, I'm really only leaving this review so that more people pick it up since it seems some people have very strong opinions about it and I don't want those reviews to be the only ones on this page.
