6.75/10 ~ Rough around the edges but thats anything Lodoss As of 2025, this should be your last stop as far as Animated world of Lodoss goes, The watch order should be as followed: - (1990) Record of Lodoss War OVA (Technically Optional) - (1998) Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight TV Series - (1995) Legend of Crystania: The Motion Picture - (1996) Legend of Crystania: The Chaos Rings OVA - (2004) Louie the Rune Soldier TV Series, technically this is in universe but is 100% standalone and pretty bad imo, would recommend skipping this one Legend of the Chaos Rings is a direct Sequel to the motion pictureand are technically stand alone stories from the general Lodoss universe but I would highly recommend at least watching the Lodoss TV series as it will piece events and charecters together that wouldn't make sense otherwise. The Lodoss TV series is a re-adaptation of the books where the original 1990's OVAs where just kinda there own thing.

Pros of Chaos rings:
- Charecters had better motivations, probably due to not having to re-introduce them from the movie
- Despite not being the best animated, 90's aesthetic goes so hard, especially in fantasy
- Ashram finally looks like himself
- Lodoss Cameos were much better then in the Motion picture
- ep 3 got a bit wild in art the art direction, forsure only something a OVA could pull off lol
- the power fantasy was real
- pretty good pacing
- easy to follow story

Cons:
- not a great English dub, slightly better then the Motion picture
- wish that more charecters were expanded on, most of them were pretty flat
- comedy was lacking
- once again white washed Pirotess
- music score was sub par
- scenes were a bit choppy, not nearly as bad as Motion picture
- Animation was sub par, better then Lodoss OVA and Motion picture
- ending felt like a copout

I would say if it wasnt for the pretty bad ending that needed like literally 5 more minutes to tie loose ends up, this could have been the best product from the Lodoss Animated series. However its hard to recommend something that is about 30 years old, not very well known, and REQUIRES you imo to watch an OVA series, TV series and a movie to get into lol. I do think anything over a 6.5/10 is worth watching so if youve made it through Lodoss then ofcourse give the motion picture and OVA series of Crystania a try!
