Marine Boy · review
Wow! I am utterly surprised to find this title on here. Kaitei Shounen Marine or Marine Boy as was titled when the reruns ran on tv when I was little, is partly responsible for my love of animation (all kinds) today. When compared to animations of the time, Marine Boy stood out. It created a fantasy world where normal people (not just mer-people) could live underwater and swim all kinds of creatures/beings including mer-people. One piece of asper gum is all that was needed. The colors were bright and inviting. The situations were just tense and exciting enough for thelittle me. Like most classics, especially ones from the late '60s/early '70s, you have to take it as it is. Comparing it to modern anime only does it a disservice. I wouldn't recommend it for the average anime viewer, just the connoissuer or those who remember it. Because it's a classic part of me wants to give it a 10 if only for sentimental reasons. Marine Boy will forever have a special place in my heart.
