Cannot emphasize enough that the main character of this story is named "Seira Mon." It's fine. The hook is the future stuff, but it doesn't become really relevant until way too late in the episode to leave an impact. It's a big ol mystery box, and when they open the mystery box, there's nothing inside of it. The personalities of the characters don't even matter; it's all about the reveal, and the reveal isn't even a twist, per se. It's just an explanation for something else that I cannot imagine someone getting deeply invested in. We don't even get to know why anyone is in lovewith anyone else.
It mostly takes place in a school, so there's not really any room for 90s anime fashion to be a saving grace here, either.
