Review of Tokyo Revengers
I feel this series is being underestimated and unfairly rated by people when they say its slow, there is too much backstory, there is fillers, too many characters etc. They aren't wrong, there are some, but they are necessary to understand the total story and the value of each character in this serie. This is the first season: yes, you might feel there is sometimes too little information given out, and other times you feel like you're sitting at school along with Takumitchy getting everything explained how all these gangs works, and who all the characters are, but its necessary. If you didn't get thisinformation, the whole anime/story line would've had a "hole" in it, an unfinished gap or a lot of viewers sitting with bunch of questions, which later would leave to this anime being dull and nobody would continue watching it. Cause ask yourself; would you watch an anime if half the story was left out and randomly characters came and left, died and kissed without knowing why they did that ?
(this is not a spoiler, this happen in the first 5 min of the 1 ep)
The story start out with a death of "your" crush/love, how can that be a good anime without a real background story leading up to it/why ?
I personally am not into this genre, im not into drama, not into punks and fighting and gangs and yakuza-stuff. But this story kept me going. It drags you in along with the time travels, all the curious questions being asked which u so desperately want to have an answer to. And i like how they shows a little backstory of all the characters a little at a time, and not everything right away. Cause then it would just be bunch of facts, and who wants to watch a documentary about characters haha.
Maybe alot of people dont like this anime cause they feel the main character is a cry baby, but thats the point of the anime. That a very normal boy, with no strength, nor muscles, but very emotional, crying alot and showing kindness to everyone, even forgiveness, is supposed to rise up.
But you kinda gotta continue watching the series, not only season 1, to fully understand the whole story-line. Even to get some answers from this seasons answered as well...
I dont feel there is any fillers, cause even if they arent fighting each episode, they still connect every episode into a nice bend, so it all feels connected and in a red tread.
The drawing style is a new style im not used to. The pointy and square nose annoyed first, but has i got more into the series it faded away.
Music was okey, not my fav. its not bad, but not my type.
Overall:
if you like an story with LOVE the main focus, time traveling, emotional attachment where you cry a little bit yourself and no questions un-answered, this anime is for you! Recommend it strongly, but watch also the other season!
