Chargeman Ken! · review
Chargeman Ken is one of the most fascinating pieces of animation that I've seen in ages, despite the fact that it barely moves. Objectively, it's probably the worst anime I've ever seen, but that absolutely does not mean it is unwatchable. It's a perfect train wreck of baffling decisions and laziness that all comes together into a surreal comedy. Every episode is horribly written, horribly drawn, horribly animated, and horribly acted, but the bite-size runtime of 5 minutes means it never drags. My husband and I started watching one episode while we have our morning coffee, but inevitably we end up saying "one more, just one more". Honestly, how can you beat that? A 5 minute show that always has something insane every episode and keeps us coming back for more. The ratio of time invested vs enjoyment had per episode makes it absolutely worth watching.
If you're not sure if you'll like it or not, I beg you to watch episode 35, "Dynamite in the Brain" to get an idea of how wild it gets. Don't worry about continuity, the show has absolutely none. Nothing is ever explained, and that's part of the fun.
Did I mention the entire series is on youtube? Because the entire thing is on youtube. Just. Go watch it. It's fun. The worst that can happen is you lose 5 minutes of your time.
