Review of Land of the Lustrous
It's a story about different entities having to make hard choices and compromises of their values for the sake of the ones they love. Sometimes it isn't very clear who is good or evil and what is right or wrong. Phos, though he/she is the main character and carries the main plot forward, isn't the only interesting evolving character. The other characters' histories and stories that is slowly revealed tells us what motivates them and why they are who they are and how they have changed over time. They are all equally moving and essential in completing the whole package. The story's pacing as it unfolds, weavedinto the beautiful hypnotic orchestral music score that often swells in sync with the intensity of the scenes, further deepens and intensifies the emotional value conveyed. It thoroughly seduces and pulls you into the narrative and connects you with the characters as if you were part of them.
By the third or so episode, you're already sucked into their world and have become mesmerized by the dazzling beauty of the environment. You start becoming sympathetic or even empathetic to their joy and hurt. The mystery and reason for their existence and intrigue by the relentless conflict between the groups begins to haunt you. The tension and desire to not experience any loss because it would be too painful not to be able to see each wonderful character in future episodes can be overwhelming at times.
Lunarians! Keep your hands off my jewels!!!!!

Overall, the well executed 3D animation, creative cinematography, snappy editing, and fantastic voice actors gives this anime a polished finish and is very satisfying to the viewer and earns an absolute recommend rating from me.
