Review of Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story
This is Great Value Madoka Magica: it looks kinda like the real thing, but the flavor is different and not quite as good. First thing to note is that it's more of a spin-off than a sequel. If you go into the series accepting it for what it is, you probably won't hate it. The story is fine, but too earnest. As others have mentioned, the original Madoka Magica was a deconstruction of the magical girl genre. This one has a try-hard feel to it. The art style is nice enough. The paper-cutout style is similar to the original series, but slightly different in a way Ican't quite put my finger on.
As for the characters, they and their relationships evolve with the events of the series, but none are particularly likeable or dislikeable.
Overall the series is just okay. It's not horrible, but I wouldn't watch another season of it.
