Review of Recovery of an MMO Junkie
Net-juu susume follows the story of Moriko Moriaka a 30 year old woman who quit her job to basically become a NEET, in other words a person almost completely cut out from the real world who spents most her/his time online. The anime focuses on her relationship with the people from her guild in an online mmo, and her romance with one of the members. Story : 6/10 The story itself was pretty interesting, also the fact that we were following the life of adult characters in their late twenties and early thirties was refreshing. But the execution was not that great. Most of the animeat least early on takes play online in an mmo. And most of the online scenes felt too fake and cheesy to the point where you would start to wonder if these characters were actually adults or kids.
Besides that the anime criticized japanese corporations; and it showed how meeting people online can actually help people cut out from society. Aside from that the story didn’t really have lot of depth when it could have had more.
Art and sound : 6/10
Pretty normal.
Characters : 7/10
On paper the cast looked pretty interesting, but I just wish the anime had spent less time in the mmo and more time outside in the real world. Aside from Moriko and Sakura we don’t really get any character development which is unfortunate.
Conclusion : 6/10
To be fair, this anime was entertaining, and tried to give us an original romantic story which was refreshing but, I truly feel like it focused too much on the online aspect of the characters lifes and not enough on their personalities dreams and struggles in real life. They were probably trying to appeal to a younger audience and mmo players by focusing story on the game and I can understand that but I can’t help but imagine how this anime would have been if it had taken itself more seriously since the deeper messages the anime was trying to share with us were actually intesresting..
(I actually enjoyed the show my review was little harsh but I hope it helped, sorry for any mistakes I might have made, english is not my first language)
