Another story where the protag isn't a human, these can be endlessly fascinating if they focus on what makes us human beyond simply our biology. And this does that often, with the protagonist evolving into something many would see as evil but he still tries to protect and befriend people. It's very similar to So I'm a Spider, So What? in it's tropes, evolution, stat and skill heavy fights, and the like, but these are tropes that are still used very well. About the only thing I honestly dislike is the abrupt change in location halfway through that isn't properly explained and doesn't bring anything to the tablestaying in the forest couldn't do.
