Reincarnation of the Veteran Soldier · review

The begining of the story is fairly typical for this kind of manhwa, but the twist of the main character being a veteran soldier. This background actually matters, especially at the beginning, where he uses his experience, intelligence, and tactical thinking. I really appreciate neither the MC nor the villains are dumb, the MC usually plans ahead, adapts to different situations, and is good at improvising. His decisions and character development feel mostly natural, which makes him enjoyable to follow. The art style is similar to "Player", which I personally like, and it improves as the story goes on. Another positive point is that fights aren’talways decided by raw strength; strategy sometimes plays an important role. And the power scaling is mostly consistent, since strategy, mental state, and decision-making all influence how abilities perform, which adds an extra layer to the combat.

There are also some issues worth mentioning. The main premise introduced in the first chapter, the idea of the soldier having “no abilities” doesn't last for long. The hero is introduced very early on, but after that, there are barely any scenes, plots, or notable feats involving him. While the story gives an explanation for this, it still feels lacking.

On the positive side, the story doesn’t focus exclusively on the MC. Side characters get some screen time, and there’s enough context to make them feel relevant. However, the world-building feels underdeveloped. The “other world” aspect isn’t fully utilized, and most of the story takes place in just two or three main locations, which makes the setting feel somewhat limited. The fights are definitely a highlight, being "the war-like arcs" one of the most predominant settings in the manwha, where multiple characters fight in different battles across separate locations at the same time. This gives the story a broader sense of scale, though some readers may not enjoy the constant perspective shifts.

Rating: 8/10.
I personally enjoyed this manhwa a lot, especially since I like this type of story. However, it’s important to manage expectations: the comedy and the more strategic, military-focused elements are mostly present at the beginning, so don’t expect that style of action throughout the entire series. The MC isn’t overly overpowered and often needs help from others, which can be a positive or a negative depending on the reader. Personally, I see it as a downside that his sketchy and twisted personality improves over time, since it was one of the main reasons that makes it stand out early on.
