Horimiya stands out from other romantic/slice-of-life genre animes. The relationship between Hori and Miyamura progresses very quickly as opposed to other creations in this genre. This left me with a kind of flat feeling during some episodes of the latter half of the season. For the most part, I enjoyed it. What I didn't like is how there's little to almost no focus on the main characters, Hori and Miyamura, once they're together and instead, it shifts to the side characters for the most part. It was kind of a downer to me because it felt more of a filler, as I was expecting tosee more build-up of Hori and Miyamura's relationship. Also, the show has mixed vibes, starting out with a normal and real-world type of reactions from the characters which you can almost expect from an actual person, but as it progresses towards the end, the characters become more cringe over time.

Another thing that I totally hated was how Hori was shown as a masochist. To be honest, I wasn't expecting this at all but what disappointed me the most was how Miyamura didn't oppose this masochistic nature and played along with it instead of actually taking it up with Hori. It's not the fault of the creators but more of the writer of the manga since this show is the adaptation of its manga version.
