Monster Strike: Deadverse Reloaded · review

Monster Strike has had a history of different anime styles - from the original being a play on the actual game mechanics, and the recent adaptation focusing on the game's units' lore. Both of these past adaptations actually had charming characters and a thought-out story line with it, with the most recent series taking it even further by focusing heavily on fan-favorite characters. Deadverse Reloaded, however, was unable to live up to either of its predecessors - and that's the best way I can put it. Even as a long-time Monster Strike player and fan, I found it very hard to enjoy this short series. It's nice to see focus on characters that have been released in the game recently, but they're almost thrown-away and barely used for the sake of cameo. The main two characters, while they had started off promising, do not really develop further with their characters nor power skills. Somehow, this 10 episode series had less content and character development than the 20-40 minute character stories that Monster Strike posts when their limited units are released...

I jokingly gave this show a higher rating than 1 because I enjoyed seeing some of my favorite characters, but it's a far-cry from what the Monster Strike series is capable of doing with their IP.

If you want to watch an amazing game's characters made into an anime with love - then stay away from this show and go watch the other Monster Strike series instead.
