As someone who never read the original or watched the anime due to time constraints, this film did a great job at highlighting what a fantastic c**t Oscar is. The musical sequences felt like where a lot of the story got compacted. That said, it was still clear how Antoinette was treated by the other nobility, for example. I'm sure I missed lots of nuance and interpersonal drama but for what it is, I had a great time. If you're short on time but want to understand why Oscar in particular has become such a touch-stone character in media aimed at young women, youcould do much worse than this adaptation.
