Review of Haikyu!! Movie: The Dumpster Battle
There are so, so many great things to note about this movie and I am just going to cover the surface of those things. I had the treat of watching this in theaters, and first of all, wow, the animation, emphasized by the big screen this time around was---absolutely fantastic, with the director of the first 3 seasons of Haikyuu, Susumu Mitsunaka, returning to production. The variety of POV's were nothing short of incredible---there was a first-person POV that completely rendered everyone in the theater speechless; it's still unfathomable that this movie is 2D. The bright colors, perspectives, and POV's completely took you in. Every timethe music abruptly stopped or started was a time you knew something big was going to happen and got the adrenaline pumping.
Some characters were understandably more highlighted than others, but the ones that were undoubtedly showed growth and overall character development from even the last match against Inarizaki. The comedy was present, as per usual, and definitely got laughs from the audience.
Absolutely delightful the movie touched upon the huge theme "we-are-just-human," conveying every player's frustration, excitement, and fatigue whether they were on and off the court.
Voice acting---no complaints, everyone was delightful to listen to whether you felt like they were screaming in your ear or giving the most heart-wrenching (I still don't know if I can consider it platonic after all that fanservice) confessions to one another.
One of the best parts about this movie is you weren't rooting for one side, you were rooting for both. The characters on each side of the court were as lovable as any other. 10/10 movie and now my current favorite, I came out of the theater floating like I was the MVP of this insane match.
