Review of Shiki

This series, in my eyes is a very cruel and painful masterpiece. It touches pieces within you like nothing else. Pieces you'd rather have hidden for eternity. Shiki revolves around a very basic question everyone encountered at one point. Many Animes have asked this question and dealt with it in their own way. However, none of those I've watched can compare to how Shiki deals with it. Shiki did not see it necessary to make this concept favourable in any way. You are shown the truth, and only the truth, without cutting any corners, without making anything beautiful in order for us to grasp it better. Afair warning: This Anime is very cruel. Not in itself, not hidden behind the fourth wall. It will pierce your heart and thoughts using the medium called "Anime" like none other.

To start with the story, there's too much to say to put it into a simple review. You need to watch this anime in it's entirety to understand the story. Although it's simple in essence.
Shikis Story grows a lot throughout the series. It is solid, it has no holes. It does not use some sort of complicated Plot Twists. You have your fair share of surprises and almost

nothing in this Series is predictable. You can hope for certain outcomes, certain things but.. Most likely any of your hope will be crushed. Just like hope has been crushed for the

characters in this Anime.
Every damn character, however much unimportant he is, is still distinctive enough to tell them apart. And this Anime has a LOT of characters. To be precise supposedly 1300 ppl

from one village. Of which around 50-100 have a storytelling purpose while every other character simply fills the masses.
You do have Main Characters, but do not expect them to be how you want them to be. No character in this anime is truly righteous, truly pitiful, truly evil or truly important. Each

and everyone of them goes through the mud, each and everyone of them baths in sunlight.
And although this Anime basically revolves around two fractions fighting one another, it is extremely hard to pick a side. It's not the purpose of this anime, to pick a side. It's

supposed to be that way. You watch and feel for both sides. You will get to know both of them. You will understand both. And all the more will both sides break your heart each and

every episode.
Followed by greatly composed and fitting, heart wrecking music.. Scenery with unsettling atmospheres.. And a unique art style, this Anime is complete in itself.
You may dislike the art style.. But it's still fitting the story like no other art style would. It's unrealistic yet immersive. It's comedic and tragic. It's beautiful and ugly all the same.
So many Contradictions will cross your path, while watching. But all of them fit together and make sense.

Shiki with everything it has, will show you the ugliest side of humanity without cutting any edges.
That's all there is to it. Nothing to justify it, nothing to make it harmless. Just the hard truth.

It's not flawless. But nothing in the world is.
Depending on what type of person you are, the time Axis might get a bit confusing.. But alltogether it doesn't even matter. Things happen at a time..

Please to watch this Anime if you are able to withstand the pain it will bring you. Please honor it with your unwavering gaze and attention. You can regret it after watching it.
