Tenchi in Tokyo · review
After watching those garbage, cringe, no sense series like Tenchi Universe and Tenchi Ryo-Ohki, all those versions were complete trash in terms of story, harem, romance, and even basic entertainment. But then Tenchi Tokyo completely changed the game. Finally, a Tenchi series where romance actually exists and feels like real romance. It actually feels like I’m watching a proper romance harem show with a story, not just random girls shouting Tenchi Tenchi the whole time. Tenchi Tokyo has those emotions which were completely missing in all previous Tenchi series. It clearly shows why characters like Ryoko were never meant to be a proper love interest and arebetter suited for comedy. And here we also get new characters, including a best girl who carries the entire show.
Story
In the beginning, the story focuses on comedy, but here the comedy actually works. Characters make funny expressions, situations are genuinely entertaining, and it actually makes you laugh. Unlike Tenchi Universe and Ryo-Ohki where everything felt forced, cringe, and stupid.
Yes, some things are still the same, like girls fighting over the MC, but here it feels more controlled and less annoying.
Second part
In the middle, a new main girl is introduced, Sakuya, easily the best girl of the Tenchi series. Tenchi meets her in Tokyo, and for the first time you actually see him showing real interest in someone. Their relationship starts naturally, and their love story slowly grows stronger.
This part actually feels like a proper romance anime, something the entire Tenchi series failed to deliver before.
Final part
The final part was completely unexpected. A serious plot, proper twists, heartbreak, emotions, and actual drama. The way the villain affects the bond between characters is handled smoothly with a proper story. This is something none of the previous Tenchi series even came close to.
One thing I seriously hated, the writer created such a perfect character like Sakuya, mature, cute, and the heart of Tenchi Tokyo, and then completely removed her just because she was not part of the original series.
She was literally the only character who made the romance feel real in the entire Tenchi universe. Before her, I don’t think there was a single proper romantic moment in any Tenchi series.
Characters
Ryoko
You have seen rokyo as a selfish funny character but Tenchi Tokyo clearly shows why Ryoko is not meant to be a love interest. She is just someone who lives around Tenchi and creates chaos. Day and night she chants Tenchi Tenchi, follows him everywhere, but leaves every time in the end in every series with excuses like he is with another girl.
From the beginning of the series, Tenchi was always surrounded by girls and never showed interest in her, yet she keeps chasing him and proving her true love for him ... But her she run away with a different guy and later blamed him that he separated her from Tenchi bltch it was your choice why are you blaming someone..
Later in the show suddenly this bltch realised how much she loves mc. She she had no options left Lol like a joke
She works better as a comedy character, not a romance one. Her love for MC is most fake thing you can talk about
Aeka
Her character is actually funny here. The way she gets jealous and chases Tenchi is entertaining. She is the complete opposite of Ryoko. She doesn’t get as much attention, but her efforts to win Tenchi are always more genuine. Still, she never really gets proper moments with him. Akeya also deserves better.
Tenchi
As always, he is still a dead character for most of the show. Like a body standing in the middle while girls chase him. His existence is almost zero. His dialogues are just hmm, yeah, okay. No personality, no growth. Just there.
Sakuya
The main highlight of Tenchi Tokyo. Her character design is beautiful and different from the usual Tenchi girls. While Ryoko and Aeka feel like loud, repetitive characters, Sakuya feels mature, calm, and sincere.
Her love feels real. She genuinely cares for Tenchi, tries to win him, but is also ready to step back if it hurts him. That balance makes her stand out.
Her story, her emotions, everything about her feels like pure romance, not a comedy circus.
She should have ended up with Tenchi. Removing her was one of the worst decisions. She is easily the best character in the entire Tenchi universe.
Yugi
A strong antagonist. Her role actually adds depth to the story and makes the final part more impactful.
Overall
Tenchi Tokyo has a proper story, real romance, emotions, drama, and actual development, unlike previous Tenchi series which were just chaotic nonsense.
It’s easily the best Tenchi series I have watched.
