Based on a long 26 film series, Zatoichi follows the blind swordsman as he travels through the Japanese countryside, using his incredible sword skills to help those in need and protect the innocent. Along the way, Zatoichi encounters a variety of adversaries and becomes embroiled in political squabbles and complicated relationships, adding some depth to the action. A significant strength is character development, particularly Zatoichi, struggling with his own personal demons while attempting to do the right thing. The story is more than just a shallow action-packed adventure; it delves into deeper issues, making it more meaningful, exploring topics such as justice, morality, and the consequences ofviolence.

The artwork is detailed and well-crafted, with a realistic and cinematic Gekiga style.

Although flawed with a weaker second half that felt like a rehash, its strengths far outweigh its flaws. Zatoichi is an above-average manga that is worth reading for fans of samurai stories. Try the source material.
